All You Need To Know About
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota Who
Died Ten Days After His
Wedding
On July 3, 2025, the world lost
one of football’s brightest stars,
Diogo Jota just ten days after his
wedding.
Diogo Jota, one of Liverpool’s
biggest stars, died in a tragic car
accident in Spain alongside his
younger brother André.
Just ten days after pledging
forever to his longtime love, Rute
Cardoso, with whom he had
three beautiful children, Jota’s
journey was cut short.
Jota’s Quiet Beginning
Diogo Jota was born on
December 4, 1996, in Massarelos,
Portugal, as Diogo José Teixeira
da Silva.
He started developing his football
skills at a local Portuguese club,
Paços de Ferreira, before he
went on loan at FC Porto, and
then briefly played for Atlético
Madrid.
But it wasn’t until he moved to
Wolverhampton Wanderers that
the world noticed him before he
made a career-defining move to
Liverpool in 2020.
He cost Liverpool around £41
million, a deal many thought was
a gamble. However, the forward
delivered quietly, steadily, and
brilliantly.
In Liverpool red, Jota was electric.
He wasn’t the kind of player who
danced with the ball or chased
the spotlight.
In just 182 appearances, the 28-
year-old Portuguese star scored
65 goals in all competitions.
Before his untimely demise,
Diogo Jota helped Liverpool win
the Premier League (2024/25),
the FA Cup (2022), and two
Carabao Cups (2022 & 2024).
Portugal’s Unsung Hero
On the international stage, Jota
wore the Portugal jersey with
pride. He played alongside giants
like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno
Fernandes, and João Félix, but
never tried to outshine them.
Instead, he complemented them
with 14 goals in nearly 50
appearances.
But Jota was never just a
footballer, he was a proud father
of three, a husband, and a
massive FIFA gamer. In fact, at
one point during the pandemic,
Jota ranked No. 1 in the world on
the FIFA 21 global leaderboard.
He even launched his own
esports team: Luna Galaxy.
Off the pitch, he was grounded,
humble, and private. You’d hardly
find scandal or showboating
around his name. Instead, you
would find a man who loved his
family deeply and lived a simple,
honest life.
On June 22, 2025, he married
Rute, the woman he had loved
for years, the mother of his
children. It was a beautiful,
private wedding. Few knew. He
liked it that way.
The Tragedy That Shattered the
Game
While travelling with his younger
brother André, also a footballer,
on July 3, 2025, their vehicle
veered off the road along the
A-52 motorway in Zamora, Spain.
Their car caught fire. Both died
before help could arrive.
The news is devastating, not just
for Liverpool, not just for
Portugal, but for the world of
sport and beyond.
